Pets | Holiday Food
Writing about pets and holiday food is a little out of the ordinary for a clutter coach
I realize.
I should explain.
We have a dog :: “bear”
He is one of the kindest animals I’ve met.
{honestly, no bias here. We have friends that ask if he can teach their dogs a few manners!}
However.
He eats better than we do.
Our Pets … How this came to be
My husband wanted a hunting dog. My kids wanted pets. I refuse to care for any thing half way.
Bear joined our family about the time of the dog food recalls. Which prompted FireDude to do some serious research on what to feed our pets.
Thus the human-grade food for our pets, and the many jokes that followed {if the end of the world hits, we can always eat Bear’s food … etc}.
And knowledge of the many things pets shouldn’t eat … like holiday food. ESPECIALLY holiday food scraps.
Our Pets & Knocking on wood
I know, what I’m about to say could cause a hiccup in our home … but I’m going to say it anyway.
We have had very healthy pets.
Do I think it’s the food they eat? Yes.
Do I think it’s the care they receive? Yes.
Do I think they feel less loved when we forgo the sneaking of table scraps? No.
Loving your pets with holiday food
Here’s the honest truth.
Pets, especially dogs, will eat just about any human food you give them.
They don’t know any better.
But we do.
If you’re not sure what’s safe for your pets to eat this holiday season, try watching the Foods Your Dog Should Never Eat slideshow or reading through the links on FoodSafety.gov and their Pet Food listing
We’ve been trained to connect the love of our pets with what we feed them. Good or bad.
So, as you busy yourself with all that shopping & chopping be sure to add appropriate holiday food items for your pets to the ingredients list.
Here are some of the treats for pets I found that Bear will be trying as his holiday food …
